5G Services Expected to Launch in Pakistan by August 2024

Pakistan is readying for 5G, with a rollout planned for August 2024.

This is a watershed moment in technical growth since Pakistan is getting closer to joining the ranks of countries that have 5G capability.

This announcement is in response to the increased need for quicker and more sophisticated telecommunications services.

In this regard, officials have released a comprehensive business strategy for the launch of 5G services in the country.

Furthermore, telecom providers’ request for free 5G spectrum allocation was denied. Instead, the government has chosen to assist operators in lowering infrastructure construction costs.

The Ministry of Information Technology has chosen to hire an international consultant to ensure the effective implementation of 5G services.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has formally requested to employ an experienced consultant who can offer crucial insights and advice for the forthcoming project.

The ministry has also forwarded a summary to the Prime Minister’s office in order to form an Inter-Ministerial Advisory Committee, which would play a critical role in shaping Pakistan’s 5G future.

The government also intends to design an auction policy and business plan in consultation with the consultant advisory committee. They want to draw inspiration for the spectrum auction process from successful models in countries such as Bangladesh and others. Importantly, the proposal underscores that no single operator will be allocated spectrum without a competitive process to maintain justice and encourage a competitive environment.
