Landslides in Torkham Death two People, Many Trucks were Buried

According to DC, two Afghan nationals were death in Torkham, heavy equipment is being used to remove the trucks from the wreckage and the number of casualties is expected to increase.

A landslide triggered by thunder and lightning buried more than 20 trucks in the town of Torkham, near the Pakistan-Afghan border, death at least two people and trapping several others, officials said.

The fire that broke out in several trucks after the landslide was quickly brought under control by rescue teams.

Rescue operations are being led by teams of Rescue 1122, located in Khyber, Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda and Mardan, while efforts are underway to help the disaster-affected people.

Deputy Commissioner of Khyber district Abdul Nasir Khan said that 20 to 25 containers were buried under the debris and heavy machinery was being used for rescue operations due to extensive damage.

He says that two Afghan citizens have been reported dead, but their remains have not been identified yet. The hospital currently has three patients and more deaths may occur.

The key route connecting Pakistan to landlocked Afghanistan, which serves as a major transit point for trade between South Asian countries and Central Asia, was hit by landslides on Tuesday morning.
