Mitchell scored fifties as New Zealand beat Pakistan in the 4th T20.

New Zealand beat Pakistan by seven wickets in the fourth T20 International on Friday in Christchurch with to fifties from Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell.

With 11 balls left in the run-chase, Phillips and Mitchell struck a match-winning partnership of 139 runs in 93 balls, bringing their side back to within 20-3 in the third over.

Mitchell scored 72 in 44 balls, compared to Phillips’ 70 in 52 balls. Shahid Afridi, the captain of Pakistan, took all three of the wickets that fell in New Zealand’s inning.

Thanks to an undefeated 90 runs by Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan set New Zealand a target of 159 runs in the fourth Twenty20 International of the series. Rizwan scored 90 runs in 63 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes.

In the final over of the innings, Mohammad Nawaz hit spinner Adam Milne with three consecutive sixes en route to his explosive 21 runs in nine balls.

Babar Azam and Rizwan shared the first wicket when Azam scored 19 runs in 11 balls and 51 runs in 31 balls.

Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson each claimed two wickets for the home team. Against Pakistan, in the fourth Twenty20 International, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The sole alteration made by Pakistan is that Sahibzada Farhan has taken Azam Khan’s place in the starting lineup.

Hours prior to kickoff, New Zealand’s opener, Devon Conway, was ruled out after testing positive for Covid-19.

“After testing positive yesterday, Conway has been in isolation at the team’s Christchurch hotel,” said a statement issued by New Zealand Cricket (NZC).

“He will be closely watched leading up to Sunday’s final game against Pakistan.” Conway will be replaced on the team by Canterbury Kings hitter Chad Bowes.

Additionally, according to NZC, bowling coach Andre Adams tested positive for Covid.

Spinner Mitch Santner, who is leading New Zealand in place of normal skipper Kane Williamson due to injury, was unable to attend the first game of the series for the same reason.

The governing body of cricket thinks that the 34,000-seat modular stadium in New York, which will host eight matches of this year’s T20 World Cup, will help it break into the lucrative US sports market. The stadium was launched by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday.

The most anticipated match of the tournament, the blockbuster June 9 match between India and Pakistan, has been allocated to the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, demonstrating the ICC’s eagerness to enter a new market.

In an online conversation with a small group of reporters, Chris Tetley, the Head of Events at ICC, stated that sustainability would be a major component of the “cutting-edge” venue.

The World Cup site would have drop-in pitches and repurpose the grandstands from the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas.

When finished, he claimed, it would surpass all cricket venues in England and surpass Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, which held the 2011 World Cup final in 50 overs.

With the size of the US sports market, Tetley stated, “I think we need to do something on this scale to make an impact in a country like that.”

“ICC has a very specific target market in mind. It’s the biggest sports market in the world, as everyone is aware.

“With at least 30 million cricket fans in the US, it’s already our third-biggest broadcast market.”

Tetley guaranteed that the American spectators will have an unforgettable time at the tournament, which the US is co-hosting with the West Indies.
