Major Western nations have cautioned Pakistan about election delays.
According to diplomatic sources, the European Union and the United States are keeping a close eye on the events surrounding the election in Pakistan. These nations have always supported democracy and believe that elections are an integral part of any progressive democracy.
Pakistan’s election delay and the prospect of an extension to the caretaker government have raised concerns in Western capitals.
According to diplomatic sources, a delay of a few months would be acceptable due to constituencies and some technical difficulties. However, if the elections were postponed last February, there could be dire consequences for the nation.
A diplomatic source said that if the elections are held beyond the month of February, it will be very difficult for us to maintain the level of bilateral relations with Pakistan.
