Easy and Quick Treatment for Sore Throat in Winter

Sore throat can be treated quickly in the winter.

Many people experience sore throat during the winter season. The dry air, low temperatures, heating systems, and low humidity of the winter make the throat membranes delicate and easily irritated.

Gargle with salt and warm water.

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) found that there are some simple but effective ways to treat a sore throat. For example, gargling with 1 cup (240 ml) of lukewarm water and ½ teaspoon of salt two to three times a day helps reduce inflammation of the throat membranes.

Use honey.

In addition to relieving coughs and sore throats, honey’s antibacterial properties help prevent throat infections. Mixing honey with herbal tea or lukewarm water increases these benefits.

Ginger tea

Drink ginger tea or chew ginger slices with honey. Ginger has anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties.

Garlic is useful for sore throats.

The natural antibacterial properties of garlic strengthen the immune system against viral infections. A small daily dose of roasted or raw garlic helps reduce a sore throat and reduce the consequences of the infection.

Water and hot soup

Plenty of water keeps the body hydrated, while hot water and vegetable or chicken soup quickly relieve a sore throat.

Taking steam is quite useful.

Cover your head with a towel and steam with boiling water in a pot. Do this process for five to ten minutes once a day to reduce dryness and irritation of the throat.

Avoid cold things.

In winter, drinking large amounts of ice or cold water can aggravate a sore throat. Instead, drinking warm beverages is beneficial.
