Protesters set fire to the Swedish embassy in Baghdad on Thursday morning in response to the desecration of the Holy Quran in Stockholm.
While Muslims around the world protested peacefully after the Islamophobic act, the Iraqi political party’s protesters chose to use violence instead, ransacking the entire building before setting it on fire.
Officials stated that although the building was set on fire, the Baghdad embassy‘s staff members were unharmed. A local preacher organised hundreds of demonstrators who earlier rushed to the embassy to voice their opposition to the planned Quran burning in the European country.
Videos that are being circulated online show enraged right-wing activists damaging the location while waving flags of Iraqi political figure Muqtada al-Sadr.
