In Karachi, Naegleria Takes Another Life

Another citizen succumbs to brain-eating amoeba, Naegleria infection.

The most recent victim, an 11-year-old resident of Karachi, was taken to a private hospital with symptoms that included a high fever, severe headaches, and the concerning trend of vomiting blood.

Following a battery of diagnostic procedures, healthcare providers verified that the patient had a fatal infection.

This regrettable tragedy serves as a reminder of the continuous threat that Naegleria poses to the people living in Karachi and the surrounding area.

Public health professionals continue to be concerned about amoeba because of its fast and frequently lethal progression.

According to the most recent study, Karachi has been the site of most Naegleria-related mortality, with five recorded deaths in the city.

Additionally, one death has been recorded in Hyderabad, Quetta, and Mirpurkhas each.
