PSL 9, Lahore Qalandars Defeat in Last Match

PSL 9, defeated Lahore Qalandars in last match, made it to playoffs.

Quetta Gladiators defeated the defending champions Lahore Qalandars and qualified for the play-off stage of the event thanks to Saud Shakeel’s excellent batting in the ninth edition of Pakistan Super League PSL 9.

In the match played in Karachi, Lahore Qalandars won the toss and invited Quetta Gladiators to field first.

Qalandars rested Fakhar Zaman and tried a new opening pair for the match and Sahibzada Farhan and Mirza Baig gave the team a decent start of 38 runs.

At this stage, the captain of Gladiators brought spinner Abrar Ahmed to bowl, who lived up to the captain’s confidence, and along with Sahibzada Farhan, who scored 25 runs, Mirza also walked in the same over.

Shai Hope also had a short stay at the wicket and was caught behind the wickets after scoring just 5 runs, he also took a review against the decision which went in vain.

After the fall of three wickets for 69 runs, captain Shaheen Shah Afridi came to support Abdullah Shafiq and both of them changed the map of the match with good batting in the next 10 overs.

Qalandars scored 166 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the allotted overs.

On behalf of Quetta Gladiators, Abrar Ahmed took two wickets while Muhammad Amir and Muhammad Wasim Jr took one wicket each.

Chasing the target, the Gladiators’ openers gave the team a 39-run start, but Jason Roy’s innings came to an end after scoring 18 runs, while Jehandad took Riley Russo for his second wicket.

However, from the other end, Saud Shakeel continued his excellent performance and added 70 runs for the third wicket along with Khawaja Nafee, in which Nafee’s contribution was only 26 runs, who took 24 balls for this score.

Saud Shakeel not only scored a half-century while facing the Qalandar’s bowlers alone, but also continued to advance towards the target.

Laurie Evans also gave the wicket of Shaheen Shah Afridi by scoring only 7 runs, but despite this, Saud did not lose heart.

In the last over of the match, Gladiators needed 14 runs to win and Saud Shakeel made the match sensational with a boundary on the third and fourth balls.

Quetta Gladiators:

The left handed batsman took a single on the fifth ball and Gladiators needed 4 runs off the last ball to win but at this stage Muhammad Wasim Jr hit Shaheen Shah Afridi for a six and gave his team a great victory.

Saud Shakeel was declared man of the match after scoring 88 runs off 65 balls, including four sixes and five fours.

With this victory, Quetta Gladiators qualified for the first off stage of the event and along with Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings also got out of the playoff race.

The event turned out to be a nightmare for the defending champions Lahore Qalandars where they managed only one victory in 10 matches.
