Greece has become the first Christian Orthodox majority country to legalized same-sex marriage.

Same-sex couples will also be allowed to legally adopt children after Parliament voted 176-76 on Thursday.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said the new law would “boldly tackle serious inequalities”.
However, this led to a division in the nation due to strong opposition from the influential Orthodox Church. His supporters protested in Athens.
Many people displayed banners, held crosses, recited prayers and sang Bible passages in the capital’s Syntagma Square.

The head of the Orthodox Church, Archbishop Ironimos, said the move would “disrupt the social harmony of the homeland”.
A simple majority was required to pass the bill in the 300-member parliament.
Mr Mitsutakis has backed the bill but it needs the support of opposition parties to bring it over the line, opposed by dozens of MPs from his centre-right governing party.
“Those who were invisible will finally be visible around us, and with them, many children will finally find their rightful place,” the prime minister said during a debate in parliament before the vote.
LGBTQ organizations in Greece have welcomed the vote.
