Security Alert in Karachi after Suicide Bombing Threat

NCTA has raised the alarms about a suicide bombing threat in Karachi.

Social media users are concerned about a potential suicide bombing threat in Karachi due to a widely shared warning alert that appears to have come from the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NCTA).

Four terrorists who have not been named yet—Arsalan, Mushtaq, Abid, and Ghazanfar—are said to have constructed a suicide bomber, which would pose a serious threat to the port city, according to a purportedly leaked sensitive information.

Although government agencies have not confirmed the paper, it suggests more security and attention to prevent any unfortunate events. There is now more security at important sites, such as the Governor House, Chief Minister House, and Karachi Press Club, due to recent security concerns.

This latest danger comes after Pakistani security officials successfully foiled a big terror plan last month in Karachi by apprehending 17 militants.

The people detained, among them a prominent commander, were apparently Afghan seminary students engaged in attacks on intelligence officers in the port city, as well as sectarian and ethnic warfare and targeted killings of politicians.

Last year, there was an increase in militant attacks in the area, which led to the biggest number of civilian deaths and security personnel martyrdom in the previous six years—over 500.

The majority of these incidents occurred in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), when terrorist explosions and ambushes claimed the lives of over 500 soldiers.

265 officers and soldiers lost their lives in counterinsurgency and insurgent attacks, according to the Pakistani military. Notably, the Afghan Taliban deny that they have been hiding or permitting their land to be utilized for attacks against Pakistan; yet, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militants who have taken asylum in Afghanistan persist in carrying out cross-border attacks.
