‘The Nun 2’ Weekend Collection Scares Competitors

“The Nun 2” dominates box office: $13 M opening, $3.1M in previews.

With a $32.6 million haul, “The Nun 2” is exceeding predictions for its debut weekend. Despite a 39% drop from the $53.8 million gross of “Nun 1,” the actors’ strike has prevented the movie from making a significant impact.

‘The Equalizer 3’ by Denzel Washington is trailing behind the next installment in the Conjuring universe, which is estimated to gross $31.3 million in its first weekend.

The social media universe for “Nun 2” was just under 150 million across Facebook, YouTube, X, Instagram, and TikTok, which is right on par with other horror sequels like “Halloween Kills” (147.3 million, $49.4 million opening) and in front of “Insidious: Red Door” (114.7 million, $33 million opening). This information was gathered by social media analytics firm RelishMix.

The Nun 2 receives a C+, which is an improvement over the C the first film received. Additionally, the commerce is typical for a horror movie.

The first installment of the horror movie, “The Nun,” earned $53.8 million and went on to earn $365.5 million worldwide, setting a high bar for subsequent installments.

In the newest terrifying film, directed by Michal Chaves, Taissa Farmiga and Bonnie Aarons make a comeback. In a prior lawsuit, Bonnie claimed that Warner Bros. had violated her contract by paying her only $71,500 and withholding any additional funds due to the box office success of the movie.

Warner Bros. “obscures and hides the true amount of Ms. Aarons’ rightful share of merchandising revenues, while simultaneously continuing to exploit her,” the lawsuit alleged. “Instead of accounting and paying transparently,” it added.
