Canadian rapper Tory Lanez sentenced to 10 years for shooting Megan.
More than seven months after the incident, the Canadian rapper Tory Lanez received a prison sentence. At a hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court that had been postponed due to delays, Judge David Herriford gave the 30-year-old rapper his punishment.
On December 23, a jury determined that Tory Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, was guilty of assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded and unlicensed firearm inside of a moving vehicle, and recklessly firing a firearm.
Following a pool party in the Hollywood Hills in July 2020, Lanez was accused of shooting Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion, 28, wounding her foot.
She testified in court during the two-week trial that the shooting was preceded by a heated dispute that started when the two started criticising each other’s musical careers.
Megan Thee Stallion, also known as Megan Pete, required surgery and stayed in the hospital for four days before being able to walk once more with the help of physical therapy.
She made a statement that was read in court but chose not to attend the sentencing hearing because she claimed she could not stand to be in the same room as Lanez.
