Chairman PTA, while briefing, said that efforts are being made to attract new companies through this auction to expand the market and increase competition.

The PTA Chairman also informed the meeting that the restoration of the submarine cable is in progress and it is expected to be completed by August 27.

Despite the upgrade of internet services, no further disruption is expected, which will provide better internet services to the users.

Currently, telecom companies are using 265 MHz spectrum. The PTA plans to make available an additional 567 MHz of spectrum for 5G services, to provide wider bandwidth for the new technology and provide better quality services to consumers.

Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rehman added that Saudi Arabia had sold its spectrum at $90,000 per megahertz, while Pakistan had sold 4G spectrum at $29 million per megahertz.

PTA’s keeping spectrum prices low reflects the ability to provide better services to local consumers.
