SHC orders LG polls within four weeks in Karachi and Hyderabad

Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday ordered to hold local body elections in the province’s major metropolitan cities – Karachi and Hyderabad – within one month.

A bench that is two-member by Chief Justice Sindh High Court Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh had heard the petitions and today, the SHC read the reserved verdict against petitions filed by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) over delays in the elections in the two metropolitan cities of Karachi and Hyderabad.

Directing the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to discharge the election schedule, the court ordered the federal government that is Sindh ensure security and other facilities for the polls.

It may be noted that the Karachi government is regional was deferred for a third time on Sindh’s demand in October after reviewing the interior ministry’s page in which it had expressed its failure to produce protection personnel for the local government elections.

The Sindh cabinet on Friday authorized the postponement of local bodies’ elections in Karachi for ninety days and in addition, informed the work that is provincial of the Election Commission of Pakistan about the decision through a letter.

Major Opposition

The major opposition in Karachi, PTI, and JI took a strong exclusion towards the wait in local government elections and said that the ruling PPP and MQM-P were afraid of keeping polls.

The main election commissioner (CEC) on Tuesday said the election payment would like to hold a body that is local in Karachi during the earliest and advised deploying personnel from Punjab to administer the polls.

Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja had also said that the provincial government amend regulations to postpone local human anatomy elections and that “the announcement for the date for town elections could be the duty of this ECP”.

“If Sindh police officials are deployed in Islamabad to present security there,” the CEC had continued, “how about deploying police that is Punjab in Sindh? Rangers or other law enforcement agencies can be deployed for security; Punjab is asked by the us government for security.”

It should be noted that the Election Commission has also reserved the choice regarding human anatomy that is local in Karachi which will be pronounced on November 22.
