Pakistan condemn Quran destruction in the Netherlands, ‘despicable.’
Another disgusting instance involved Edwin Wagensveld, a Dutch member of the far-right Pegida organization in the Netherlands, who trampled on holy book pages before tearing them.
According to Media Accounts,
The event happened last week, on Sunday but the police didn’t become involved.
Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates are all Muslim nations that denounced the occurrence.
The Foreign Office Released a Statement,
“It is unquestionably a provocative Islamophobic hate crime conducted under the cover of freedom of expression.”
According to the communiqué,
Pakistan has consistently maintained that exercising one’s right to free expression entails obligations.
The Statement Continued,
We also think that it is the duty of national governments and the international community as a whole to avoid such heinous acts.
The acts that are committed with the secondary intent of provoking and inciting religious enmity and violence.
Islamophobia
The foreign office urged the world community to speak out against Islamophobia & urged the community to foster interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence.
The statement continued,
The resolution to designate March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia was voted on by the UN General Assembly in 2022 with that goal in mind.
It added that the authorities in the Netherlands are being informed of Pakistan’s worries.
“We implore them to take action to stop such cruel & Islamophobic acts.
To be sensitive to the sentiments of the people of Pakistan & the Muslims around the world.”
Incident in Sweden
In a week, this incident has occurred twice.
Rasmus Paludan, the head of the Stram Kurs (Hard Line) Party, destroyed a copy of the Quran in front of the Turkish Embassy.
He did all this in Stockholm, last Saturday while under police protection and with authorization from the authorities.
Several Muslim nations have denounced the heinous act, including Pakistan, Turkey, Jordan, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.
Most people have referred to it as an “act of provocation” and cautioned that the incident may hurt Muslim feelings.
The unpleasant behavior was denounced on Twitter by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who stated,
“The veil of freedom of expression can’t be used to damage the sensibilities of Muslims.”
