Pervaiz Elahi complain of poor health during 10-day prison confinement
“I am poor condition, and I have been locked up in a tiny room for 10 days,” Elahi told journalists ahead of his appearance at a local court in Lahore. “The fan in the room is broken,” he added, “and I am not allowed to meet my family.”
In response to a journalist question regarding his potential plans to leave the PTI, Elahi stated, “I am not being allowed to meet anyone, how could I hold a press conference?”
“I’m not even allowed to speak with the media here,” he cried.
“Do you see how bad I am over here?” the former CM asked.
Meanwhile, police barred journalists from entering the courthouse and forced them away. According to SHO Shabia Raza, journalists will not be let into the court under any circumstances.
Elahi was detained earlier this month by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) with the assistance of the Punjab Police.
Elahi detention was confirmed by interim information minister Amir Mir, who claimed that Elahi was “trying to flee” when he was apprehended while in his car.
A judicial magistrate in Lahore then ordered the former chief minister to be held in prison for 14 days on judicial remand on June 4.
Days later, once his health in prison deteriorated, he was transported to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).
Elahi had undergone medical testing at the PIC after complaining of chest trouble. Later, he was returned to prison.
