JI Declares Nationwide Protest Against Rising Petrol Prices

JI Emir Sirajul Haq calls for protest against petroleum price hike.

By raising the price of petroleum and diesel, Sirajul Haq claimed during the JI protest announcement the caretaker administration had supported the unjust policies of the departing coalition government.

He referred to it as an injustice to the nation’s poor people and claimed that the country’s leaders were exerting pressure on them in order to appease the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He encouraged the interim administration to help the people. The JI leader also urged people to participate in his party’s nonviolent demonstration against rising gas costs.

Tuesday saw the caretaker administration raise the cost of petroleum by Rs17.50 per liter, setting a new all-time high of Rs290.45.

Additionally, the cost of high-speed fuel was raised by Rs20 per liter. High-speed diesel would now cost Rs. 293.40 per liter after the increase.
