NHMP has announced a significant increase in the fines for violations.
According to the circular, all routes and motorways under the control of the National Highways and Motorways Police (NHMP) now face multiple higher fines for traffic infractions.
The motorway police are now undertaking an awareness campaign for the public on social media, mainstream media, and other channels. The revised traffic infraction fines will go into effect on October 1, 2023.
Overspeeding fine have been raised from Rs. 750 to Rs. 2,500 while overtaking fine have been raised by Rs. 1,200 to Rs. 1,200 from Rs. 300 to Rs. The current fine for using broken lights is Rs. 5,000.
The penalty for driving without a license on any highway or motorway is now Rs. 5,000 rather than Rs. 750.

The implementation of the revised fine amount has been prioritized, and all regional commanders, zonal commanders, and field formations have been ordered to launch briefing campaigns and ensure the distribution of pamphlets and brochures regarding it in order to educate and inform drivers, commuters, passengers, and the general public.
