Google Marks 25th Birthday with Special Doodle

Top search engine marks 25th birthday with a special Google Doodle.

Google said in a statement that while it was always looking ahead, birthday provide a chance to reflect. It gave a quick history lesson to reveal that the company was founded 25 years before.

By chance or fate, PhD computer science students Larry Page and Sergey Brin connected at Stanford University in the late 1990s. They quickly discovered that they had the same goal in mind: to improve accessibility on the World Wide Web. The two spent many hours creating a prototype for a superior search engine from their dorm rooms.

“They transferred the operation to Google’s first workplace, a rented garage, as they made significant headway on the project. Google Inc. was established on September 27, 1998,” it recalled.

Although a lot has changed since 1998, including the logo used in today’s Google Doodle, the goal of organizing the world’s information and making it widely accessible and helpful has not altered. Google is used by billions of people every day for a variety of purposes, including searching, connecting, working, and playing.

“We appreciate you growing with us for the past 25 years. We are eager to follow the future together and see where it leads,” it continued.

The Doodle shows how much has changed since that day in 1998, including the Google logo. The goal hasn’t changed, though; it’s still to organize the world’s information and make sure it’s useful and accessible to everyone.
