Russia Says it is Not Subject to Missile Technology Restrictions

Russia assert non-compliance with UN sanction on missile tech to Iran.

Russia Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that supplies of products under the Missile Technology Control Regime to and from Iran do not require prior UN Security Council approval.

Resolution Agreement

A 2015 resolution defined the sanctions, ratifying a deal where Britain, China, the European Union, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States lifted sanctions against Iran in exchange for curbing Tehran’s nuclear program.

In 2018, President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the JCPOA, leaving unilateral U.S. sanctions in place, and Iran has since ramped up its nuclear program, which it It is purely peaceful.

With the treaty in pieces, the UN sanctions were intended to prevent the theocratic state from developing long-range nuclear-capable ballistic missiles. But these will finally end on Wednesday.

Since its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has developed closer ties with Iran and faces rejection by the West. Many believe that Iran manufactured many of the hundreds of unilateral attack drones Russia used to bomb Ukraine last year.
