NASA astronaut Donald Pettit posted a bright photo of the Kaaba on his X account.

A touching photo taken from the International Space Station in space shows the illuminated Kaaba as the magnificent center. The photo has gone viral on social media.

NASA astronaut Donald Pettit recently shared the photo with his X account followers.

According to Khaleej Times, Donald took the photo when the International Space Station passed 400 kilometers above the Earth.

Astronaut Donald Pettit shared this unique photo of Mecca with his fans on X (formerly Twitter), where he often posts his space photos.

“Orbital view of Mecca,” Pettit commented next to the photo. The Kaaba is the bright spot in the center. Islam’s holiest site is visible from space.

The photo went viral as soon as it was shared. Millions of people have watched it on various platforms, and comments have praised the spiritual light of the Kaaba.

Veteran NASA astronaut Donald R. Pettit was selected in 1996. Before becoming an astronaut, he worked as a scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He holds a PhD from the University of Arizona and a BS in chemical engineering from Oregon State University.

Pettit has flown four space missions. These include Expedition 6 in 2003, STS-126 in 2008, Expedition 30/31 in 2012, and most recently, Soyuz MS-26 to the International Space Station in 2024. He has completed 13 hours of spacewalks during his 590 days in space.
