Amazon Launches Virtual Medical Clinic in US for Common Ailments

Amazon launch clinic, digital platform connecting users with medical.

Amazon Launch has long aimed to increase its influence in the medical industry. It acquired online pharmacy PillPack in 2018, which served as the foundation for a website it later rebranded as Amazon Pharmacy and used to distribute prescriptions and compare prices for over-the-counter medications.

Customers who seek treatment will be connected to healthcare providers through Amazon‘s new service, which company said will be available in 32 states. The price will vary depending on the providers and the service does not include health insurance, it was emphasised.

Prior to providing services to other businesses under the Amazon Care brand, which it now wants to discontinue by the end of this year, the online retailer initially tested virtual care visits for its own employees in Seattle in 2019.

The business is also waiting for the $3.49 billion purchase of One Medical to go through since it wants to increase its online healthcare presence and add brick-and-mortar medical clinics for the first time.

Amazon‘s stock increased by nearly 1% in pre-bell trading.
