Apple tops global smartphone market, overtakes Samsung for first time.
For the first time in 12 years, Apple has overtakes Samsung to capture the highest percentage of the worldwide smartphone market.
Apple has pushed Samsung down from the top position for the first time in 12 years.
The US phone company accounted for more than a fifth of phones sold last year, according to data from the International Data Corporation.
Smartphone sales are declining, as indicated by the IDC report.
which stated that the total number of smartphones sold in 2023 was over 1.2 billion, reflecting a decrease of more than 3% compared to the previous year.
It also marks the lowest amount sold in a decade, with many consumers reluctant to buy due to economic challenges and high interest rates, but experts say the market will improve this year.
It is also worth noting that in the list of the top five smartphone manufacturers, apart from Apple and Samsung, three companies are Xiaomi, Oppo and Transition, and these are Chinese companies.
Samsung grabbed 19.4% of the market share with Chinese phone makers Xiaomi, OPPO and Transsion while Apple grabbed more than 20% share.
