Babar’s Rule at ICC Awards

Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, received two awards on Thursday.

The two Awards are the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of 2022 and the ODI Cricketer of the Year.

Babar, who had already been named the “ODI Cricketer of the Year” in 2021, continued to rule international cricket ICC in 2022, being the first player to score more than 2000 runs in all forms.

He scored 2,598 runs, averaging a commanding 54.12.

The Pakistani cricketer had his greatest calendar year ever, with eight hundred and 17 fifties.

It was not surprising to see the 28-year-old win the championship for the second year in a row after scoring 679 runs in nine ODI matches at an average of 84.87 with three hundred. He keeps occupying the top position in the ODI Player Rankings.

In 50-over cricket last year, Pakistan’s lone defeat came at the hands of Australia in Lahore.

Babar’s year as captain in the white-ball forms was especially noteworthy since Pakistan won all three ODI series they participated in, dropping just one game out of nine to Australia.

He helped Pakistan reach the World Cup final in Australia for the first time since 2009 in the T20I format, where they lost to England.

Babar Azam also had a fantastic year in Test cricket, scoring 1,184 runs in just nine games, and carrying the most of the burden for Pakistan in the longer format.

In a 10-hour second-innings marathon, he made an incredible 196 runs without being out, virtually saving Pakistan from an unavoidable loss in the drawn Karachi Test.

Babar Azam Commented

As the recipient of the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, he commented, “I am honored. I now join the ranks of some of the most iconic and revered people who have previously won the greatest and most prestigious individual accolade in our wonderful sport.”

“I still look up to these athletes and prior winners for motivation, inspiration, and progress.

Because cricket is a team sport, I am extremely grateful to and obliged to my family, team, fans, and the institution for their unwavering support in making this recognition and success possible.
