On Thursday, NZC also unveiled their selection for the trip to Pakistan, with spinner Ish Sodhi making his long-awaited comeback to the Test squad following a four-year absence. The only other time Glenn Phillips played for New Zealand in a test match was in 2020 against Australia.
Fast bowlers Trent Boult (unavailable) and Kyle Jamieson (back injury) were not selected because they were unavailable. Ish Sodhi, a leg-spinner, is a part of New Zealand’s 15-person team for their forthcoming two-match Test series in Pakistan.
The 30-year-old has been selected for the series, which is set to begin in Karachi on December 26 and end in Multan on January 3, along with Glenn Phillips and uncapped Blair Tickner. In response to the trio’s selection, New Zealand Coach Gary Stead said, “I know all three of the boys have a tremendous love for the longest form of the game and are looking forward to getting into their red-ball practice at the pre-tour camp in Lincoln this week.”
