Now that it is possible to generate electricity from ocean thermal energy, the 20 kW device has been tested and returned to Guangzhou, the capital of the southern province of Guangdong. It was mainly constructed by the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey under the direct supervision of the China Geological Survey.
The operator generated power for four hours and forty-seven minutes for the test period, with a maximum output of 16.4 kW.
According to Ning Bon, a senior engineer at GMGS, the offshore test confirmed the viable and efficient operation of the locally built marine thermal energy power generation system, which is the first marine power generation system in the country. It is a critical step in the continuous process of generating and using thermal energy, from the ground testing phase to offshore applications.
