Deadly Cyclone Mocha has Strikes Bangladesh and Myanmar

Category-five cyclone makes landfall on Bangladesh and Myanmar shores.

Despite missing the vast refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar that had  anticipated, Cyclone Mocha still tore away hundreds of temporary structures.

In Myanmar, at least seven fatalities have reported.

According to locals, Sittwe, the capital of the western Rakhine state, has  destroyed to the extent of up to 90%.

The entire Rakhine region has designated a natural disaster area by the Burmese government.

The storm had largely passed by late Sunday. Kamrul Hasan, a disaster administrator for Bangladesh, said the cyclone did “no major damage,” but the nation is still experiencing floods and landslides. There have been no reported fatalities in Bangladesh to date.

Given that the storm in Rakhine state destroyed electrical lines and crashed down homes, Myanmar looks to have more directly affected. According to Myanmar’s meteorological service, it passed through the nation at a speed of roughly 209 km/h (130 mph).

The state’s Rohingya refugee camps have also destroyed.

A teenager boy  among those reported dead, according to local media; he died in the state via a falling tree.

Myanmar looks to have experienced the storm’s effects more directly. In many parts of Sittwe, the electricity and wifi connectivity has disrupted. In the midst of torrential rain over the area, footage posted online showed billboards flying off buildings, telecom towers being knocked down, and roofs being blown off houses.

Rakhine State has deemed a natural disaster region via the authorities, and the Myanmar Red Cross Society has stated that it is “getting ready for an enormous emergency action.”
