ECP Announces Public Holiday on February 8 for General Elections

ECP announced public holiday on February 8 for the upcoming elections.

On February 8, 2024, the leading polling organization in the nation announced the holiday, “With the authority granted by Article 218 of the Constitution, in conjunction with Sections (4) and 8(c) of the Elections Act, 2017 (Act No. XXXIII of 2017), as well as any additional powers that may be available to it for that purpose, the Election Commission of Pakistan is pleased to announce that February 8, 2024, will be a public holiday nationwide. This will allow voters to conveniently and freely exercise their right to vote. By Decree of the Pakistani Election Commission,” the announcement stated.

 

The announcement of the nationwide holiday coincided with the upcoming third consecutive election of a nation of 241 million people to a civilian parliament.

Due to the public holiday, ECP stated in the announcement that a maximum number of individuals will be able to exercise their right to vote.

Banks will be closed for a consecutive three days

Similar to this, Pakistani banks will be closed for a three-day holiday weekend beginning on Saturday.

This year’s Kashmir Solidarity Day falls on a Monday. All commercial banks will be closed on Saturday and Sunday in addition to the final bank holiday.
