Khan’s indictment in electoral body contempt case postponed August 2.
Imran khan attorney asked the ECP to postponed the hearing throughout the hearing so he could acquire more information about the matter.
The case was heard by a four member panel with Nisar Durrani serving as its chair. The PTI chairman also attended.
In connection with the contempt proceedings against the former premier, the commission has instructed the Islamabad Police to detain Imran and bring him before the electoral institution today (Tuesday).
Director General (Law) Muhammad Arshad of the ECP wrote to the inspector general of police (IGP) in Islamabad to inform him that Imran was needed in the proceedings for contempt of the commission’s proceedings that were started in accordance with Section 10 of the Elections Act of 2017.
The commission has issued non-bailable warrant of arrest for Mr. Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi in accordance with the authority granted to it by Section 4(2) of the Elections Act 2017 and other enabling provisions of the act and rules. This warrant authorizes and compels you to detain the aforementioned Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi and bring him before the Pakistani Election Commission on July 25, 2023, at 10:00 am, according to the letter.
For allegedly using disrespectful language against the chief election commissioner and the ECP, the ECP sent Imran with contempt notices last year.
