Election Process Begins, ROs Seek Nomination Papers in 144 Districts

Pakistan gears up for delayed election with ROs seeking nomination.

Nomination for the general election are expected to be accepted by the Election Commission of Pakistan beginning on Wednesday and running through Friday.

According to the poll schedule, the ROs were supposed to release a public notice for the general poll on December 19. Contesting candidates had until December 20–22 to file their nomination papers.

The electoral process for polls was formally launched in the first phase when the Returning Officers (ROs) published public notice inviting nomination papers for seats in the provincial and federal legislature.

Previous results from the election process showed that there are 128,585,760 registered voters, comprising 59,322,056 women and 69,263,704 men.

The second phase will see the names of the nominated candidates released on December 23 and a vetting procedure that runs from December 24 to December 30.

The deadline for filing appeals against the acceptance or rejection of papers is the third of the next month; the Appellate Tribunals will make their decision by the tenth. On the eleventh of the next month, the updated list of applicants will be released, and until the twelveth, candidates may withdraw their applications.

Election symbols will be distributed to political parties by the Election Commission on February 13th, with polling taking place on February 8th.
