Nepra approves Rs0.51/Unit increase in electricity rates nationwide.

The federal government has requested Nepra to warn all of KE’s customers of an extra 51 paisa per unit price of electricity, which would take effect from November through January 2023.

According to the Power Division’s prior statement to Nepra, “Such adjustment will impose on the consumption of September, October, and November of 2022 to be recovered from users in November, December, and January 2023.”

According to Nepra, “Total per unit quarterly adjustment has been evaluated at Rs. 3.55, while Rs. 0.51 per unit has been passed on to customers, while Rs. 3.04 subsidy will be provided from the state exchequer.”

According to the power regulator, the government gives Karachi customers an annual subsidy of Rs 291 billion.

The government may continue to use a single consumer-end price for K-Electric and state-owned power distribution firms under the National Electricity Policy 2021.
