FBR freezes PIA’s 13 bank accounts over Rs. 8 billion FED non-payment.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) bank accounts linked to the national carrier, according to FBR officials, will also be freeze.
Despite the accounts being reopened last month, the FBR has chosen to file a first information report (FIR) against PIA personnel for failing to submit the FED.
PIA official stated that the national carrier’s flight operations would not be impacted by the freeze of its bank accounts. According to the spokeswoman, there has been communication with the government, and the airline’s accounts will shortly be restored.
The FBR had earlier on July 27 suspended all of the PIA bank accounts due to the non-payment of taxes. Following the resolution of the disagreements between the FBR and PIA, the accounts were restored.
FBR representatives claimed that the PIA had not deposited the FED of Rs4 billion obtained from the sale of airline tickets. Due to Pakistan State Oil’s (PSO) refusal to provide when its accounts were previously suspended, the PIA had trouble paying for gasoline.
