Government Declares Nov 9 a Public Holiday

Nov 9 declared public holiday by Pakistan’s federal government for Iqbal Day.

“On Thursday, November 9, there will be a nationwide public holiday,” the Cabinet Division announced on Friday.

Current news recognizes November 9 as “Iqbal Day” in honor of Dr. Allama Mohammad Iqbal. It would be his 146th anniversary of birth this year.

Today’s latest news reveals that Dr. Iqbal’s influence played a significant role in motivating millions of Muslims throughout the subcontinent to seek an independent nation where they could freely practice Islam.

Mosques would offer special prayers before daybreak in support of Pakistan’s development and prosperity.

Dr. Iqbal, known as the “Poet of the East” in Pakistan and other countries, was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877.

Iqbal was a well-known philosopher and poet. He is recognized for penning poetry and used his political clout to push for the establishment of a Muslim nation-state.

His 1930 speech in Allahabad marked a turning point in pre-partition politics.

In order for the Muslims of the subcontinent to establish Pakistan, Allama Iqbal’s speech provided them with a distinct identity and clear direction.

There will also be a ceremony at his mausoleum in Lahore to change the guards.
