Govt will Permit Pakistanis Overseas to Register Mobile Phones for 120 Days

According to sources at the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication (MoIT), the Federal Government of Pakistan is getting ready to roll out an online system for the temporary registration of mobile phones for 120 days for foreign nationals and overseas Pakistanis who are visiting Pakistan for brief periods.

The facility of temporarily registering their mobile Phones on each visit to Pakistan will be available to overseas Pakistanis and foreign citizens once this mechanism is operational, and there will be no customs fees to pay for 120 days.

The sources further stated that PTA worked with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Federal Investigation Agency to build and integrate the temporary registration system (TRS) (FIA).

In the upcoming days, the TRS initiative’s launching event will take place.

However, the aforementioned equipment would be subject to any applicable FBR customs duties or taxes if it is intended for ongoing use in Pakistan.
