Yemen’s Houthis have launched a military operation against a Norwegian merchant tanker, promising to block any ships heading to Israeli ports until Israel allows food and medical aid to enter Gaza.

since October, the Houthis have carried out operations on five occasions.
On October 31, the Houthis said they had fired “a large number” of ballistic missiles and drones at Israel and warned that they would carry out more attacks “until the Israeli offensive ceases”.

November 19, the group announced that it had hijacked a cargo ship in the Red Sea, which it said was owned by an Israeli. On the same day, the Houthis announced that they would target any ship owned by Israel.
December 3, the Houthis targeted two Israeli ships in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
On December 10 of the same month, a French frigate said it shot down two drones over the Red Sea that were believed to be coming from the coast of Yemen.
On December 11, a source in the Houthi group said it could divert the two ships after sending a warning.
