Authorities have filed a defamation case against a 40-year-old man and his 73-year-old father for allegedly making and sharing videos in which Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni face was digitally replaced with obscene material.
According to the BBC, police traced the suspect by tracking the device used to upload the videos.
Defamation cases in Italy can be considered a criminal act under the law, which can lead to a prison sentence.
Georgia Maloney is scheduled to appear in court on July 2, the BBC reports. The indictment claims that the altered videos were posted on a pornographic website in the US, which had accumulated “millions of views” over several months.
The legal team representing the Italian prime minister has described the request for 100,000 euros in damages as “symbolic”, saying the prime minister intends to donate the entire amount to organizations helping women affected by gender-based violence. keep
