Karachi Mayor Election Delayed 2-3 Months Post Local Government Polls.
The provincial election commissioner revealed in an exclusive interview with ARY News that it will take two to three months to elect Karachi’s mayor and deputy mayor.
Ijaz Chohan observed that there were still 11 Union Councils (UCs) with elections to be held.
He added that the mayor will be choose after the completion of 246 UCs and that members will later be elect on reserve seats.
It shall be mention that throughout Sindh, particularly in Karachi and Hyderabad, the Pakistan People’s Party win the most seats in the second round of the LG elections.
Based on the party rankings provided by the ECP, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) won the most seats in the Karachi Division following the LG elections, with 93.
In the meantime, unofficial results from all 155 UCs show that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) won 98 seats, making it the only party with enough support to name Hyderabad’s mayor.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and other parties were askedto reach an agreement for the position of Karachi mayor a day earlier by Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, the head of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi, according to ARY News.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman made the declaration while speaking during a gathering in support of Youm-e-Tashakur, which the JI was observing after winning the Karachi local government (LG) elections.
All political parties were invited to collaborate with JI for Karachi’s improvement.
Hafiz Naeem urged the political parties to cooperate with JI in order to transform the city.
