Passenger Dies for not Getting Wheelchair in India Airline

The Passenger dies for not getting wheelchair, India airline fined.

Indian airline Air India has been fined Rs 30 lakh for not providing a wheelchair to an 80-year-old Passenger.

According to Indian media reports, Air India has been fined lakhs of rupees after the death of an 80-year-old passenger at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport while traveling from the airport to the terminal.

In this incident which took place on February 16, the wheelchair was not provided to the passenger in time. After the tragic incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation took immediate action and issued a notice to Air India and sought its response within 7 days.

After reviewing the response to the notice, the concerned body found Air India guilty and fined Rs 30 lakh.

On the said incident, the airline said that the passenger’s wife asked to arrange a wheelchair, on which the staff asked her to wait, but till then the sick passenger started walking to the terminal with his wife.

It should be noted that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said in this incident that Air India did not implement the rules related to persons with disabilities or persons with reduced mobility.

Non-compliance with the regulations laid down in the Aircraft Rules 1937 resulted in heavy fines for airlines.
