US proof sets record: longest period underwater stay, depression-free.
Professor Joseph Dituri spent more than 74 days underwater at the bottom of a 30-foot-deep lake in Key Largo, Florida, setting a new world record.
And now they have no intention of stopping. He announced on Sunday that he will spend at least 100 days at Jules’ underwater lodge.
“My goal from day one has been to inspire future generations, to interview scientists who study life under the sea and understand how the human body works in extreme environments,” he added.
Two professors at Largo Lodge, California, broke the previous world record in 2014 by spending 73 days underwater at atmospheric pressure.
Lodge doesn’t have the equipment to handle the higher pressure underwater, unlike a submarine.
Professor Dituri, popularly known as Dr. Deep Sea, started his journey from Jules Undersea Lodge on March 1.
A University of South Florida professor is researching how the human body reacts to chronic exposure to extreme stress. The experiment is called Neptune 100.
According to the latest news, Medical tests are being carried out on the 55-year-old to find out more about his health as well as the psychological effects of being imprisoned and isolated for so long.
