Proposal to shut down mobile service for election 2024

Mobile services are likely to be shut down during election 2024.

According to the sources, it is proposed to shut down the mobile service at important polling places for the election of the new assembly in Pakistan on February 8.

The proposal to suspend mobile services was made in the ECP meeting which was called to review the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Sources privy to the development said that the proposal to suspend internet and mobile services in sensitive areas of the country during general elections 2024 had been mooted.

Security of election candidates was also a topic of discussion during the conference, and CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja expressed his concern over the increase in attacks on political gatherings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

After the meeting, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja issued a press release saying that those who try to disrupt the elections will be dealt with strictly.

The CEC clarified that there should be no confusion or misunderstanding as the general elections will be held on time in 2024. According to him, the biggest threat to the democratic process is terrorism.

Sikandar Sultan Raja announced that despite the security issues, the Election Commission is ready to hold the elections on February 8. The CEC declared that it has full confidence in the law enforcement system.
