PTI Karachi President Akram Cheema Resigns from the Party

PTI President Akram Cheema resigns from party citing events of May 9.

Cheema, who was recently selected as the PTI Karachi President, announced his resigns from the position and desire to leave the party during a press conference.

He strongly condemned the violent incidents on May 9 in which government buildings and military sites were targeted. “I demand that these individuals be punished as a Pakistani. We shouldn’t battle against government institutions, he remarked.

He claimed that the events on May 9 were an effort to undermine the military ability to protect the country. He said that the country security forces had brought about peace in Karachi and elsewhere.

Akram Cheema stated that the May 9 culprits must face harsh punishment on behalf of the entire country. He declared that he will stay in politics to help Karachi and the nation.

An anti-terrorism court had granted Cheema bail in a case involving riots and burning the day before. PTI leaders Akram Cheema and Abid Jilani were arrested by the police on suspicion of rioting and arson in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

Muhammad Akram Cheema was chosen president of the PTI Karachi Division last month after Aftab Siddiqui resigned from politics due to the May 9 incidents. In the 2018 general elections, Cheema won a seat as an MNA representing Korangi NA-239.
