Umrao Jaan Ada novel to be adapted into a series featuring Sajal Aly.
The novel, a classic of Urdu literature, was published by Mirza Hadi Ruswa in 1899 and is renowned for its depiction of 19th-century Indian subcontinental culture and society, notably the lives of courtesans.
The book has been adapted for the big screen in numerous ways. On the most current, producer Hamid Hussain is in charge.
According to Hussain,
Sajal will play the key role in the next Umrao Jaan Ada adaptation. He noted that, in contrast to earlier productions, Aly’s Umrao Jaan is an eight-part television series.
It won’t be a movie, but an eight-part television series. Sajal is one of the two female leads we are developing for this series.
Numerous films have been made based on the book. “Umrao Jaan Ada” (1972), directed by Hasan Tariq in Pakistan, starred Rani.
In India, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan appeared in J.P. Dutta’s 2006 version of Muzaffar Ali’s 1981 film “Umrao Jaan,” which was adapted by Muzaffar Ali.
The book also served as the basis for two 1958 Indian films, “Mehndi” by S.M. Yusuf and “Zindagi Ya Toofan” by Nakshab Jarchavi.
In 2003, a Pakistani television adaptation aired on Geo TV, while in 2014, an Indian television adaptation aired on the Doordarshan Urdu channel.
“Umrao Jaan Ada – The Musical”
It is an adaptation of Ali’s 1981 motion picture by Indian composer Salim-Sulaiman, which premiered in 2019.
The most recent translation will be in the Urdu version that features Aly. Action Consultancy, a South Asian celebrity management company based in Abu Dhabi, is packaging and producing the project. The producers are Hamid Hussain and Muhammad Yaqoob.
There is a lot in the novel that has never been displayed in an audiovisual project, according to Hussain, who also revealed that the series adaptation strongly draws from the original Urdu version of the book.
Unlike the film adaptations that took artistic license to fit the plot into a cinematic narrative. The project is currently under development and is anticipated to join a significant streamer.
Action Consultancy manages prominent South Asian actors, like Humayun Saeed, who appeared in “The Crown,” and Ahad Raza Mir, who appeared in “Resident Evil.”
The company recently diversified its services and forayed into funding and packaging foreign content for movies and television shows.
