Scientists have discovered virus-like organisms in the stomach and mouth, dubbed obelisks.
Because of their very small size, they are included in the viroid class, which is a class of single-RNA organisms.
But viroids have the ability to cause disease, but obelisks in the human body cannot.
So why are they present in our body and what do they do? This is a question that scientists do not yet have an answer to.
However, scientists from Stanford University, University of Toronto and University of Technology who discovered them believe that these organisms influence the genetic activity of the human microbiome in the gut.

Surprisingly, they make up 50% of the bacteria in the mouth, while they make up about 7% of the bacteria in the stomach.
