Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ Re-Releases In India

DDLJ re-released on Shah Rukh Khan 57th birthday, grossing $28,103.

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge was Shah Rukh Khan released at a subsidised rate of $1.2 and was a box office success in many theatres across India. On November 2, PVR Cinemas screened DDLJ in 18 cities across India, including Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Chandigarh. INOX and Cinepolis have also released the  1995 movie in select theatres. In a press release, the movie’s star, Khan, says of the re-release, ” “For me, DDLJ was an extremely special movie. I am grateful for all of the support I have received for the movie over the years. Bringing it back on my birthday only adds to the magic.”

Yash Raj movies

According to Rohan Malhotra, Vice President – Distribution at Yash Raj movies, the movie has shaped pop culture and is the longest running film in Indian cinema history. “It is our most valuable IP, and it represents the deep bond that Shah Rukh Khan and Aditya Chopra’s YRF share.” SRK is an icon who has graced Indian cinema with ground-breaking movies, and it is an honour to celebrate his birthday and treat him to a special treat fans to one of his most memorable movies of his incredibly successful career.

DDLJ

Originally released on October 20, 1995, the movie shattered box office records and is the longest running movie in Indian cinema history. It has been running in a Mumbai theatre for over 25 years. DDLJ was released in Germany, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, Mauritius, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, and Estonia in 2020.

The movie, which starred Khan alongside Kajol, Amrish Puri, and Farida Jalal in key roles, told the story of a non-resident Indian family. Simran (Kajol) has lived her entire life according to Indian traditions and rules set by her father Baldev (Puri), and after graduating from college, she convinces him to let her go on a trip to Europe with her friends, where she meets Raj (Khan) and falls in love with him. The movie follows Simran and Raj on their journey to persuade her family to accept their union despite their orthodox beliefs. The movie struck a chord with the audience and continues to enchant them.
