Turkey’s Rescue Operation Is Almost Complete

Search & rescue operation in Turkey quake-hit areas near completion.

According to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management, rescue operation in most provinces have been called off almost two weeks after this month’s deadly earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

The death toll from the earthquake has risen to 40,642 and the evacuation of people buried under the rubble has ended in most provinces, said Yunus Caesar, the head of emergency management.

He further said that we hope to finish the rescue operation by night.

The earthquake struck southeast Turkey and Syria on the morning of February 6, with a magnitude of 7.8, in which more than 45,000 people were killed and more than 1 million people were displaced from their homes, while billions of dollars worth of property was destroyed.

Evans Caesar said that we are currently facing the biggest disaster in history. The aftershocks of this devastating earthquake were not limited to only 11 provinces, but the damage caused by it has been seen far and wide. More than 5,800 deaths have also been reported in Syria. Most of the deaths were reported in the North-West regions.

According to the World Health Organization, about 25 million people in Turkey and Syria are in need of humanitarian assistance.

In which Pakistan is also cooperating well, 170,000 tents and more food items are also being sent from here.
