Wazirabad Assault Replacing JIT Members

4 dismissed after PM Imran Khan shooting in Wazirabad in their duties.

In rebuttal to the gun attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan in Wazirabad on November 3 of last year, the Interior Ministry has notified the replacement of four members of the joint investigative team (JIT),  due to their disagreements with the investigation’s senior police officer in Lahore.

The action takes as a result of disagreements between the five JIT members and the investigation’s chief, CCPO Lahore Ghulam Mahmood Dogar.

On January 11, the four members questioned certain media reports regarding their findings, claiming that the JIT director had not given their differing opinions “appropriate weight.”

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Khurram Ali of Dera Ghazi Khan, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Naseebulllah Khan, Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Monitoring, Punjab, Ehsanullah Chohan, and SP Potohar Division Malik Tariq Mehboob jointly released the statement.

The members also informed the Interior Ministry and the Punjab Inspector General Police about disputes arising within the group before issuing the statement.

On the other side, the investigation lead had also filed a formal complaint with the ministry against two JIT members.

The accused gunman who allegedly attacked the former premier, Naveed, submitted a request to the Interior Ministry on Thursday, alleging that the JIT was acting with political animosity.

DPO Dera Ghazi Khan Muhammad Akmal, SP Anjum Kamal, and DSP CIA Jhang Nasir Nawaz are among the new members.

The newly reconstructed JIT gives the responsibility of making the decision about the nomination of the fourth member, which is still pending.
