Mercedes-Benz unveils the Level 3 self-driving system and $1B global.
In 2022, the German company, Mercedes-Benz launched sales of Drive Pilot, its top-tier autonomous driving system, in Germany after receiving the first OEM certificate of compliance.
The US State of Nevada has authorized Mercedes’ Drive Pilot technology, and Mercedes claimed at CES 2023 that it will provide a certificate of conformity “within two weeks.”
The German firm submitted certification applications in both Nevada and California, and is “confident” that California will “follow soon.”
The Level 3 conditionally automated driving assistant can navigate busy motorways, giving the driver more time to unwind or go to a meeting.
ALC, which enables autonomous lane changes and uses cruise control to pass slower-moving vehicles, will debut in North America. At highway crossings and exit ramps, it can also follow route directions.
In addition to ALC, Mercede US will equip its cars with Level 2 semi-autonomous driving technology. Some driving tasks can be handled by a Level 3-capable vehicle, but a driver must be present and available to take over when directed.
Drive Pilot is available on European, Benz S-Class and EQS sedans, suggesting that Mercedes will only offer this option on its top-tier automobiles.
