Director Sarmad Khoosat: Zindagi Tamasha film, delayed & faced issue.
On the portals of Khoosat Films on Vimeo and YouTube, the movie Zindagi Tamasha will debut globally. The movie’s co-producer and director, Sarmad, has advised viewers to see it with an open heart and mind.
Initial reviews of the film were overwhelmingly positive; it was Pakistan’s official entry for the Oscars and won a number of accolades. Regrettably, religious organisations’ objections prevented the movie from receiving a theatre premiere in its native nation.
Despite earning a clean bill of health from all three censor boards. The movie had trouble finding an audience in its home country. Currently, the crew has chosen to release the movie directly to the public during Pakistan Independence Month.
In this sense, Sarmad posted on Instagram that he wanted to ‘free’ the movie for this month of independence.
What is the movie about?
In Lahore, Zindagi Tamasha follows the pandemonium that erupts in the life of a pious, sedate elderly man after a video of him is posted online.
In the movie, Arif Hasan plays Rahat, a naat khwaan who is well-known in his Lahore neighbourhood and the old city. Since he is a devoted Muslim, everyone else perceives him as being nearly supernaturally incapable of any sacrilege. As a result, he cannot be forgiven for his mistakes. After a video of Rahat became popular on social media, Rahat and his family were marginalised by society.
International Recognition:
The 2019 Busan International Film Festival saw the world debut of Zindagi Tamasha, which went on to become the first Pakistani film to take home the festival’s coveted Kim Ji-Seok Award.
At the 6th Asian World Film Festival (AWFF), it also won the Snow Leopard Award for Best Film. The film served as Pakistan’s official submission for the 2020 93rd Academy Awards’ International Feature Film Award.
