Spain Introduces A Digital Nomad Visa For Freelancers

Digital Nomad Visa: Live & Work in Spain for up to 5 Years for Non-EU.

When Economic Affairs Minister Nadia Calvio claimed that Spain sought to “attract and retain global and national talents by helping remote workers and digital nomads set up in Spain,” she hinted at the potential of a visa.

Who is eligible to apply for a Digital Nomad Visa in Spain?

The digital nomad visa in Spain is open to anyone from outside the EU who operate remotely for non-Spanish companies. The percentage of applicants’ revenue that comes from Spanish businesses cannot exceed 20%.

Both remote workers employed by a single company. Outside of Spain and independent contractors with several clients are eligible for the visa.

The candidates need to be nationals of a nation outside the European Economic Area. They are not allowed to be currently residing in Spain or to have lived there during the five years prior to applying.

They must be able to show that they had a working relationship with their customers. Or company for more than three months previous to applying.

And the company they work for must have been in operation for at least a year.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate that they have an employment contract or, if they are a freelancer, that a company outside of Spain has continuously hired them. They must also be able to demonstrate that their job can be done remotely.
