Prime Minister Reiterates Support to UAE for Hosting COP28

PM Shehbaz reaffirms the Pakistan’s support for the UAE hosting COP28.

During his discussions with the Prime Minister and the minister for climate change, Sherry Rehman, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, who is the president-designate of COP28 and is also the special envoy for climate change for the UAE as well as the minister for industries and technologies, discussed issues of mutual concern.

During the trip, Dr. Al Jaber met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to address bilateral concerns as well as global and regional topics of importance, with a focus on the fight against climate change.

President-designates ability to oversee the crucial conference was praised by the prime minister.

UAE official recognized Pakistan efforts as one of the nations most adversely affected by climate change in battling its impacts.

He also emphasized the United Arab Emirates strong desire to invest in Pakistani renewable energy projects. In the Prime Minister presence, the two parties inked an MOU establishing a plan for such investments in Pakistan.

Senator Sherry Rahman, the federal minister for climate change, and Dr. Al Jaber also met. The minister informed the President-elect of Pakistan worries on the effects of global climate change and complimented the President-designate on the UAE hosting of the upcoming COP28.

Both parties talked on potential solutions to the issues brought on by these changes, including putting the Loss and Damage Fund established at COP 27 in Sharm-Al-Sheikh last year into operation.

At the Foreign Service Academy, Dr. Al Jaber also spoke to academics, students, civil society representatives, and diplomats.

He discussed his goals for COP28, stating that it will serve as an inclusive and revolutionary platform for addressing the world climate problems. During his visit, he also met with representatives from the COP youth program.
